Richard Lovelace (1618–1657 or 1658) was an English poet and nobleman, born in Woolwich, today section of south-east London. He was one of a cavalier poets, and the noted royalist.

He was imprisoned briefly within 1648 for supporting the Royalists during the period of Oliver Cromwell. He was better known for his verse form To Hollyhock, from either Prison & To Lucasta, in Running to the Wars.

His virtually all quoted extract is from either a beginning of the previous stanza of To Hollyhock, From either Prison:
